From Listening to Living — Help Us Bring EVS to Life
Class 1, Term 1 – Environmental Science, Tamil Nadu
40 Immersive Audio Lessons | Spoken Tamil | Rural Ready
Funding Goal: ₹1,80,000
We’re bringing Environmental Science to life for Class 1 children in rural Tamil Nadu — not through textbooks and rote learning, but through the magic of stories, sounds, and real-life experiences.
This is EVS as it was meant to be — not memorized, but lived, felt, and understood through the world around them: their body, their family, their home, and their village.
What We’re Creating
Over 40 expressive audio scripts — in simple, spoken Tamil — that introduce each child to their immediate world using:
- Stories from village life they see every day
- Epics and Puranas they’ve heard from elders
- Play-based tasks that use their body, home, and surroundings
- Direct audio conversations with the child — no teacher needed
- Teacher guides and riddle games to support classroom joy
The Learning Method
Children won’t just learn “My Body” by pointing at diagrams.
They’ll walk with Kutti the dog as he sniffs out a stolen mango.
They’ll feel what legs can do, when the mango thief runs away.
In our epic story, Dhruva’s Stillness, they meet a boy who uses his body not to move — but to meditate, stand tall, and find his place in the stars. That’s when they ask: What is a body really for?
They’ll explore Family through the tale of Ammu who gets lost in the festival crowd, and realize that love and safety come from being known, remembered, and found.
They’ll visit a crow’s school, where birds learn to sweep, build nests, and take care of each other — and in the process, understand what a school is truly meant to be.
In Rama’s Forest School, they’ll sit with the young princes as they learn dharma under the trees — no walls, no bags, just wisdom and wonder.
Each chapter gently brings in concepts like:
- Body parts and their functions
- Good habits and personal cleanliness
- Love and roles in family life
- School as a place of growth and care
- Recognizing surroundings — home, classroom, neighborhood
Who It’s For
These lessons are designed for children:
- In rural Tamil homes with little or no access to teaching resources
- Who learn best through sound, story, and interaction
- Whose first science is their daily life — not what’s written in textbooks
We meet them where they are — barefoot, curious, and full of questions.
Each Chapter Includes:
- 2 Fictional Stories grounded in rural daily life
- 2 Epic or Puranic Stories offering timeless values
- Post-story concept reflection spoken directly to the child
- 5–8 activities using body, home, and local materials
- Try-it-yourself prompts to deepen real-world learning
- Teacher audio guide for joyful facilitation
- Riddle Game to reinforce vocabulary and concepts
All scripts are designed for low-data, mobile-friendly access on ManMaking.co.in — free forever for rural users.
Why This Work Matters
In rural schools, EVS is often just reading aloud from a page.
But a child doesn’t need to memorize “This is my leg”.
She needs to run, jump, stretch, and then realize — this is my body.
She doesn’t just need to recite “I brush my teeth daily”.
She needs to laugh at Kutti the dog who forgets to clean his paws — and then say, “I won’t forget!”
Through these stories, every child will learn:
- I belong — to my body, my family, my school
- I can care — for myself and my world
- I can learn — with joy, in my own language
Our Funding Goal: ₹1,80,000
This will help us:
- Write, review, and structure over 40 EVS audio scripts in Tamil
- Record expressive, child-friendly audios with natural voice acting
- Edit, optimize, and package for use across low-end phones
- Make all content freely available to rural teachers and families
