Where Coins, Clocks, and Cartwheels Teach Maths — Help Us Gift Term 3 to Rural Children
In a village classroom, a teacher places a rolling coconut on the floor and says,
“Look! It rolls. What else can roll?”
Laughter begins. Curiosity awakens. Learning begins — with joy.
We’re bringing this magic to every rural child in Tamil Nadu — through 50 immersive audio stories and lessons, designed for Class 1 Term 3 Maths, rooted in local culture, spoken Tamil, and storytelling.
These audio lessons are part of the MSCHOOL section of ManMaking.co.in — a digital knowledge platform for culturally rooted, value-based education.
Each lesson includes:
- Fictional stories from daily village life (e.g., coins to buy mangoes, rolling cartwheels)
- Two stories from epics and puranas — like Kubera’s Gift and Bhishma’s Arrow Bed, that bring maths concepts to life
- Interactive explanations using the child’s world: goats, games, festivals, homes
- Creative tasks involving movement, rhythm, and imagination
- A full teacher audio plan for informal classrooms and volunteers
What children will explore in Term 3:
- Geometry through movement — “What rolls, what slides?”
- Money — “How many coins to buy a pencil?”
- Time — “What happens before sunrise and after sunset?”
- Instructions and puzzles — “Can you find the missing tail of the picture?”
- And of course… numbers, subtraction, and skip counting — all through play.
In our epic story Bhishma and the Arrow Bed, children feel the rhythm of time, its waiting, and flow. In Kubera’s tale, they learn that coins carry more than metal — they carry meaning.
Why it matters?
These audio lessons are built for the child who learns under a tree, beside a field, or in a thatched hut.
They need not just access to maths — but delight, belonging, and confidence in their own learning style.
We believe every concept can be taught through a story. And every child deserves one.
Funding Goal: ₹195,000 INR
This supports the creation of:
- Story writing and concept design in Tamil
- Voice recording and emotional narration by trained speakers
- Editing and preparation of 50 mobile-friendly audio files
All lessons will be freely published on ManMaking.co.in — for rural teachers, parents, and children across Tamil Nadu.
